As soon as Alaina turned the locks, the excited sound of Cody made her laugh. Her blue eyed Siberian Husky jumped up at her as soon as she opened the door. "Cody, oooh boy, I missed you, did you miss your mommy, Cody?" as she let her dog lap her face up with his tongue. Yvetta, her Russian neighbor smiled at her and gave her a warm hug, "he haz been verry good", she told Alaina in her thick accent. "He behaved, I can't take this, keep it, and come next door for some tartar, later, huh?" Yvetta said as she folded Alaina's hand on the hundred dollar bill she was given to watch Cody. "He didn't give you a hard time? I'm surprised. And thank you so much, Yvetta", Alaina said, handing back the money to Yvetta. "Take this, or no tartar later," she added as Yvetta headed to the door, shaking her head, but with a huge grin on her face. As she was closing the door, Yvetta looked back and excitedly said, "you tell me all about the rich, handsome playboy later, Alaina?" Alaina giggled and said, "oh, yes, Yv, every delish detail," and winked at her pretty, dependable neighbor. When Yvetta was gone, Alaina took off her shoes, laid out a black chemise on her bed and started the bath. Cody followed her around quietly. She took off her clothes as soon as the bath was ready and led Cody out to her living room. "You watch TV while mommy bathe, okay?" she cooed to Cody. Cody looked up at her and held out his paw like he understood what she said. Alaina couldn't help but laugh. She adores her dog and to put him in front of the TV while she bathes, made her feel as though she has awful parenting skills. Alaina sank in the tub and closed her eyes. A smile crept up her face recounting the last 24 hours with Martin. He makes her heart race. What a glorious looking male Martin is, and she suddenly wondered if he liked kids, or dogs, for that matter. Alaina's eyelids were getting heavy when she noticed the TV volume rise. "Cody, did you get a hold of Mommy's remote control?" she called out to her dog when suddenly, she heard a yelp and then silence.
Alaina hurriedly got out of the tub and grabbed her robe. She bursted out of her bedroom and called out to Cody. Cody wasn't responding to her call. She heard a faint whimper behind the kitchen nook and as she started to turn the corner, James Traynor appeared behind the pantry door. Alaina's eyes widened with terror upon seeing James Traynor. "What are you doing here in my house?" she asked hoarsely. "How did you get in?" snapped Alaina. James Traynor just grinned then raised his right hand holding the Glock and pointed it at her. Alaina held onto the kitchen counter when she felt her knees buckling under her. She moved backwards slowly to reach her phone. "Ah ah, don't you fucking reach for that phone!" James barked at her in his gravelly voice, as he inched towards her. Alaina stared directly at him when she noticed blood trickling down his other hand. He has a knife, a bloody knife! Alaina gasped and nervously called out, "Cody, here boy, Cody?" her eyes started to well up with tears. That was when James Traynor held up the the knife, in plain view. "I'm afraid Cody won't come even when you're blue in the face." James hissed as his eyes glanced to the other side of the nook. Alaina followed the direction of his eyes and slowly backed to the corner of the nook. She looked down and saw her husky on its side, chest raggedly moving up and down and blood pooling by its neck. Cody looked up at her and let out a painful, barely audible yelp before becoming completely still. Alaina wailed, "Oh god, noooo, Cody, baby!" and without hesitation, she quickly dropped to the dog's side crying hysterically. She didn't care anymore that James was yelling at her to stop making a sound and to stop moving.
Alaina was inconsolable and she wouldn't stop crying over her dog. James grabbed her by the hair and dragged her kicking and screaming to the bedroom. James shoved her violently down on the bed and held the bloody knife against her throat. "If you do not stop screaming, I swear you will end up worse than your fucking dog!" he warned her. Then his eyes travelled down Alaina's exposed legs from when she landed on the bed. She was still sobbing uncontrollably. James' eyes caught a glimpse of her breast from the robe's opening, her slender neck now bears a spatter of blood from her dog and her beautiful green eyes were red from crying. "Whoooweee, she's going to be fun", James thought in his sick, sick mind. He saw how Martin Green looked at her last night and unbeknownst to both of them, before he drove off to Lake Union as he was directed by Martin, and before the tinted divider closed in the limousine, he got a gander of how beautiful, how desirable Alaina is, when naked. That was enough for him to make an extra effort to try and capture her attention and to run around like a fool and rush to open the door and hold out his hand to her, but the bitch won't even look at him.
Martin kept checking his phone for a call from Alaina, since she's left. "Independence is this girl's middle name", he thought. He misses her already and it has only been a couple of hours since she drove off his driveway. He wants to hear her voice and it looks like he has to be the one to call her, for that to happen. He grinned as he dialed her number. Her voicemail came on. "I was thinking since I am your current subject for the tabloid, that you may want to join me in Denver." was the message he left. He thought she may be back at her office. He called his office and spoke with Dana, one of his assistant and instructed her to get a hold of Troy Beatty, Alaina's editor for Emerald City News. "What needs to be relayed to him, sir?" Dana asked. "Patch him through when he's on the line", Martin replied then hung up. "Beatty," Alaina's editor answered when the secretary announced Dana from Green Steel Industry was on the phone. "Mr. Troy Beatty? Please hold for Mr. Green", Dana immediately said. Troy Beatty cleared his throat and loosened his tie upon hearing Dana's statement and held on for Martin to get on the other line. He started sweeping the stray hair off his forehead and blew his breath against his hand and sniffed it, then "What the... it isn't like this man is coming to talk to you in person!" he muttered to himself. And then a deep, but clean, authoritative voice came on, "Mr. Beatty, Martin Green, I just wanted to touch base with you and tell you, the journalist you sent to interview me," Martin paused, he wondered how he should state it without giving away the excitement he feels when he say her name. But the editor spoke before he can conclude his statement. "Aw, yes, Mr. Green, I just wanted to apologize for Ms. Gold if she seems uninterested in covering your interview. She is my best writer and I was just making sure that your story is written by the best", the editor yammered on. Martin chuckled, "as a matter of fact, Mr. Beatty, had you allowed me to finish my statement, I was getting ready to give your journalist the compliment she richly deserves. She's more than qualified to do my interview and she is very charming, thank you", Martin articulated. "Really!?" came the disbelieving response of the editor. "Yes. Really." Martin condescendingly intoned. "Would you mind putting her on the phone with me?" Martin asked, although it sounded more like an order than a request. "Mr. Green, I'd love to do that but Alai, er, Ms. Gold has not shown up yet. Heck, she hasn't even called. Very unlike her." the editor replied as he started checking his mobile for a text from Alaina. There is none. He started wondering but didn't let on his possible concern. "Please get a hold of her for me and tell her it is imperative she calls me," Martin requested, again sounding more like an order than a request. Troy Beatty agreed to do as he's directed.
Yvetta was cutting lemons when she glanced at the clock, 12:17 in the afternoon. "Now, where is that girl?" she asked herself loudly, referring to Alaina. Lunch is noon and she can't possibly still be freshening up, not to mention, she has to go in to meet with her editor at 2, as she has mentioned yesterday. Yvetta washed her hands and wiped them on her apron. She looked for Alaina's spare keys given to her for when she watches Cody. She couldn't find it. Yvetta surmised she must have left it in Alaina's place this morning when she arrived. She dialed Alaina's phone. Voicemail. She finally dialed her landline which Yvetta knows Alaina always answer because it is only her that calls it. It just rang and rang. "Did that girl just skip tartar with me?" she muttered. As she was about to get irritated, she caught sight of the Mercedes Benz Alaina pulled up in earlier. She did not skip lunch with Yvetta. She couldn't have. Something is wrong.
Lily arrived at 4th and Madison on her Moped. Her clunky backpack sits heavily on her lap and is filled with her laptop, flash drives, USB connector boxes and routers. She removed her helmet and shook her purple hair wildly. "Here we go", she said to herself as she entered the huge, marble tiled lobby of Green Steel Industry or GSI as she calls it and pronounces "jeezy" to her closest. She made a face as she muttered "Eeeew, Lily, those piercings and tattoos are so not Green Steel" mimicking Dana, the prim and proper assistant of Martin. One of the 50 assistants of Martin and the shittiest of the bunch in Lily's eyes. "Ah, the fuck with her! Mr. Green thinks her an asset, so fuck her!" she grinned to herself. She passed the security desk and flashed her IT Tech badge to the 4 men wearing identical black suits and pressed the 10th floor button on the elevators. One of the men approached her and called out, "Lily Moore? Ms. Moore? Wait up, please", the man rushed to her before she can step onto the elevator. She turned around to face him, her face registering exasperation already. "What? What now? The hair? Ugh!" she annoyingly whined. "No, ma'am, I was told to tell you to go straight to the main garage and give these to you. They came earlier, from Mr. Green", the man said, and handed Lily a key and a card. Lily opened the card, handwritten by Martin himself, it read "to my tech beast, a monster to match her genius, M Green". Lily's heart started to beat rapidly as she opened the key case. The key has the black quadrangle emblem with a white slash on it. Lily let out a loud "Woohoo!!" and excitedly grabbed the security man and kissed him then punched the garage button on the elevator. When the elevator opened, she hopped in, saluted the men and said "peace out, bitches!" Martin Green just gave her a Ducati Monster 1200 S in appreciation of her work. She decided to give him her blood if he should ever ask. "I have the greatest boss in the world", she confirmed to herself.
Yvetta decided she will just bring their lunch over to Alaina and started packing the food. On her way out, she dialed her number again and once more, the line just rang. Yvetta started to get worried. She hurriedly walked towards Alaina's town home. James started running the blade lightly on Alaina's robe opening, trying to undo it and toying with her. Alaina clutched her robe tighter and in that scary, deep, gravelly voice, James said "you will only open it for billionaires? Doesn't that make you a prostitute, Alaina?" Alaina, the image of Cody lying lifeless on the floor still fresh in her mind, finally relented to the rage she feels and slapped James across the face, "you disgusting pig!" she glowered. James spat out the blood from his mouth, stood up then backhanded Alaina across the face. Alaina flung backwards, nose bleeding. Her robe flew open and James got on top of her and started unbuckling his belt as Alaina started clawing at him. He struck Alaina again and sat up, placed the gun by her nightstand and used the knife to threaten her not to fight or she will be cut worse than her dog. Alaina stopped struggling, closed her eyes and sobbed "No, no, don't do this" to her attacker. As James was opening her robe, the doorbell rang, followed by a loud banging on her door. Yvetta!!
